Houseboating has become one of the fastest growing segments of the recreational boating industry and owning one of these water palaces requires specialized knowledge compared to operating a runabout or small cruiser.

NMMA and PWIA Host a Day on the Water for State Legislators

Nearly 200 State Senators and Representatives from throughout the United States enjoyed a cruise on Lake Grapevine or personal watercraft demonstrations while attending the American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC) meeting in Dallas, Texas. Legislators cruised on a houseboat generously donated by Marinas International as well as Personal Watercraft from BRP, Honda, Kawasaki and Yamaha. ALEC has more than 2,400 legislator members and promotes a common belief in limited government, free markets, federalism and individual liberty. The boating event marked the fourth consecutive year that NMMA and PWIA have sponsored a day on the water for ALEC attendees.

Congressional Boating Caucus Continues to Grow - NMMA

The start of the new Congress has also increased membership in the Congressional Boating Caucus. Since the beginning of the new Congress, the House Boating Caucus has added four new members: Rep. Mike Doyle (D-Penn.); Rep. Ron Kind (D-Wisc.); Rep. Charlie Rangel (D-NY); and Rep. Hal Rogers (R-Kent.). The Senate Boating Caucus has also welcomed new members: Caucus Co-Chair Sen. Herb Kohl (D-Wisc.); Sen. Tim Johnson (D-SD); and Sen. Olympia Snowe (R-Maine). The Congressional Boating Caucus currently consists of 133 Members, and is constantly growing. President & CEO Steve Lochmueller Appointed HIA Chair for 2005

Sumerset Houseboats president and CEO Steve Lochmueller was elected chairman of the Houseboat Industry Association (HIA) during the group’s recent meeting at the Houseboat Expo in Louisville , KY. John Stenseth , Forever Resorts, was elected vice chair and Aramark’s Mark Suttie was elected as a new board member. Re-elected to the board were Sheldon Graber with Destination Yachts, Inc.; Matt Harvey, Gibson Fiberglass; and Jeff York, Stardust Cruisers.

Lochmueller named HIA’s new Vice Chair

HOUSEBOAT INDUSTRY ASSOCIATION ELECTS NEW LEADERS CHICAGO
The Houseboat Industry Association (HIA) has re-elected Destination Marine Group’s Sheldon Graber as its chairman and Sumerset Houseboat’s Steve Lochmueller as its new vice chair. The announcement was made after HIA’s board of directors held its spring board meeting at the National Houseboat Expo in Louisville, KY earlier this month.

Established as a National Marine Manufacturers Association (NMMA) affiliate in 2001,HIA represents the interests of the houseboat industry in legislative and regulatory concerns, promotes NMMA certification to boost consumer confidence, and promotes strong lines of communication with other organizations closely involved with boating safety and standards development.
